From 1852 ads in Scientific American. An 1853 ad gives the name as Childs, Tainter & Co.
Worcester, MA. Purchased by J. A. Fay & Co. in 1853. E. C. Tainter continued as an employee of J. A. Fay & Co. until at least 1860. It seems that when Mr. Fay died, Tainter purchased Fay's Worcester works and operated them under his own name.
