This large endless-bed planer was intended for use in shipyards, railway-car making, or large lumber mills. The article describes them as "the heaviest machines ever built of their class." The cutter cylinder is solid wrought iron and carries 4 cutters. The beds travel on inclined ways, and are designed to be quickly adjustable. It can plane to between 1/2" and 6" thickness. The planer is available in both 26" and 30" widths, costing $550 or $650, respectively.
The machine was called the "Farrar" or Endless Bed Surface Planer. The origin of the Farrar name is not known. |
