This drill press was a local find for $50 maybe 5-6 years ago. It was in mechanically good shape. I recently gave it a gentle refurb. Original thread found here: http://owwm.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=204958. I disassembled, cleaned, de-greased, de-rusted the parts in a 16-hour Evaporust bath, and replaced the quill bearings. I scrubbed the rusty painted surfaces with Nevr Dull wadding which I find usually works great to get the chipped and rusty paint areas back to metal without affecting the paint. I also shot the whole thing with WD40 to force evaporate any moisture, then gave it the obligatory waxing. The exact make and spec of quill bearings were ordered from Lynn at Accurate Bearing [Quill Bearing: NICE 605 ID: 5/8" (.6250") OD: 1 1/8" (1.1250")]. I also rewired.

Of note, the chuck is OEM Jacobs No. 3333C Hartford CT 5/64-1/2" key chuck. It’s in great shape.

The earlier vintage G. E. motor is not original but correct spec at 1/3 HP and 1725 RPM. Nice motor, but I’m not sure it’s oil ports like to be mounted sideways, which probably explains why it was the dirtiest/greasiest motor that’s ever come into my possession. I’ll likely swap it out someday. I’d love to find it’s gold/black Craftsman compliment.

The original paint is in fortunate shape, just needed elbow grease.

This drill press is an impressively simple design overall. A big tip of the hat to member Brian Kachadurian for uploading the manual.

I’m sorry I didn’t have better lighting the day I took these photos. They are rather flat.
